but instead two nurses came in, one to hold poor lily's legs, one to insert a catheter, and me to hold her arms. i was afraid i would cry, but didn't. thankfully it only took a few seconds and they got the urine sample. they called back the next morning to confirm that it was a UTI.
the bad thing is that UTI's can be bad in infants. as soon as her 10 days of antibiotics are finished she has to have another test done at the hospital where they x-ray her bladder and kidneys and then do another catheter and insert a dye into her bladder and take another x-ray to see if urine is going back into her kidneys or if there are any obstructions. apparently this is done on any infant under the age of 2 when they have a UTI. this test is done to make sure the kidney's are okay. UTI's can be much more dangerous and are much more serious in infants due to the risk of damage or scarring to the kidneys.
she seems to be feeling a lot better today now that we have gotten some antibiotics in her system. please pray that her test (not sure of exact date yet) is not painful for her and that everything looks normal (and that mommy doesn't get too anxious either!).
poor precious sick girl in her piggy jammies.
sorry your sweet girl is sick! these tests are no fun...I'm commenting yet again, as we unfortunately are familiar with both the voiding cystogram and the lasix renogram...which I'm guessing she will have one or both of these tests. sorry you have to go through it...thankfully she won't remember it...even though you will! We will be praying for you guys!
