Miss Independence, almost

Lately the theme for this girl is "I'm a big girl..."

I'm a big girl to sit in a big girl chair. Not a high chair!
Big girls don't suck their thumbs. (quickly pulls her thumb out of her mouth and wipes it off and then says big girls don't suck their thumbs)
I'm a big girl like Eba (Eva)!
I'm a big girl to put my coat on.
I'm a big girl to zip my coat up.
I'm a big girl to wear big girl jammies, not baby jammies! (the one's with the feet)
I want to do it myself!

She talks non-stop. Strangers literally ask me on a daily basis how old she is and then comment on how well she talks. I think this is because she never stops talking. Seriously, she talks yells in her sleep, mostly at Eva to stop doing something or to give something back to her.

She can dress herself completely, she can put her own coat on and zip it up, she can brush her teeth, she can take her plate to the sink, she can recognize pretty much all colors, all letters, and most of her numbers.

But we have one Big Girl hurdle to overcome:

Potty Training.

Ugh. I hate potty training. Such a pain. Lily doesn't have much interest and so far hasn't been very successful. Honestly I don't really think she's totally ready yet.  I don't really want to have a newborn and three-year-old in diapers. When I tell her big girls don't wear diapers she disagrees. I will be patient and give it another go. Actually I am about as enthusiastic as she is about the process. She does like the treats and can squeeze out three drops of pee anytime she has a craving for chocolate or a marshmallow. But then she will pee in her panties ten minutes later.

So I will try not to stress. And I will give myself a chocolate. And a few marshmallows. And snuggle up to my almost three-year-old wearing her diapers, sucking her thumb contentedly as she occasionally takes her thumb out to say some big word I have never heard her use before. And I will be thankful that she is still petite and only in size 4 diapers, because at least I know there are size 5 diapers and those should get her through Kindergarten. And as independent as she is she should be wanting to change her own diapers before long!
