in 2009...

JANUARY was a good month.

there was just one.

but not for long.

FEBRUARY
changed a lot of things. i turned 31 and the next day our second child was born.

then there were two.

in MARCH we took self portraits. what else were we supposed to do all day?

these two little girls were already falling in love with each other.

APRIL was lovely.

lily was baptized.

and we were april fools.

so was she.

april showers brought MAY visitors.
from minnesota.
they wanted a chance to try out their new shorts before their summer started in july.
that chick on the very far left has really white legs.

lily kicked off swimsuit season.

eva opened the pool season.

JUNE was fun.

eva's eyes sparkled.

and sometimes her head pouted.

lily went to general assembly with shaun and me. and she pooped all down my skirt.

lily took baths.

and looked just plain cute.

and we took more self portraits. for some reason.

and eva also got her first real bike.

JULY couldn't be beat.

there were fireworks with friends.

bananas grew with hearts on them.

attitudes were consistent.

some tears were shed.

and superheroes were made.

we went to oklahoma and breathed in the wide open spaces. ahhhhh.

and saw lots of family. (and cows)

and took more self portraits. goggles are important.

AUGUST was incredible.

4 important things happened.

1. eva sat on a bench in the sun.

2. she also laid on a blanket in the grass.

3. lily took her first bath in the big tub (and grew teeth).

4. and shaun's crepe myrtle bloomed.

SEPTEMBER was quiet.

eva ate a pear.

lily ate...something.

i found a pretty cool spider web.

and then OCTOBER came.

bringing with it a brief surprise. and lots of fears. and excitement. and worry.

swamp daisies were spectacular.

friends trick-or-treated.

and these two just loved each other even more.

NOVEMBER was busy and full of emotion.

my pregnancy ended.

shaun went to haiti.

we took another self portrait. see, they're not all goofy.

mimi came for thanksgiving and to hang out with us while shaun was in haiti.

DECEMBER has pretty much been crazy.

shaun turned 35 and returned from haiti.

somewhere in here we celebrated christmas. and ate a lot of stuff that is not good for a person to eat a lot of.

this girl turned 4. got sick with some unknown illness and laid on the couch for two days.

this girl got sick too. had a UTI. had some not-so-fun tests done. didn't sleep much for over a week.

and, you guessed it, we took more self portraits.

and then another one.

and then for good measure, a family one.

today is the last day of 2009.
as crazy as 2009 has been i can't wait to spend 2010 with these three.

am i blessed or what?

  7. So THIS is what you did last night with your alone time. Well spent!! I, on the other hand, sat around and stared at people until midnight. And then sat some more until 1:30. And then didn't sleep well because I had stayed on my feet too long :)
Just wanted to let you know I love your blog!

  8. Danielle,

Happy 2010. I just have not been in the blog world for awhile, so this post was the first that I had read of your pregnancy and miscarriage. I'm sorry. But I know the Lord is faithful and I pray that you have those around you who are loving you well. Your girls are so sweet and it just looks like you have such a happy family. What a tremendous blessing. Much love to you in this New Year. Sarah

I am behind here, but I absolutley loved this post of 2009 in recap. I have said it many times, Danielle you have such a gift for posting and your pictures are just wonderful. I love that we live in a time where we can know what is going on with distant family and watch the girls growing up thanks to internet. I had not responded to your post yet regarding your miscarraige, but my heart was deeply saddened by your loss and deeply touched by your open honest post. I know that was a difficult time for you and Shaun, but your faith got you through it and will continue carry you through. Thank you for sharing your lives and your precious, beautiful girls with us.
I love you and pray for you.
    Aunt Kathy
