general assembly

we have been gone for the past week to general assembly (the large annual gathering for our church's denomination). while eva was spoiled by gramps and gramma, shaun, lily, and i spent the week at the coronado springs resort at walt disney world. we didn't go to any of the parks...not with a 4 month old and not with a husband (who shall remain nameless) who isn't buying into the disney money vortex. i will admit that i'm with him on that. we did however have to pay out the wazoo for very below average food in the resort "food court". but other than the food court and a couple of over priced souveniers for eva, we didn't let "the man" take advantage of us! anyway, here are the top 8 (because i can only think of 8 at the moment) highlights of general assembly at walt disney world, organized as always in bullet points because, well let's face it, that's how you like it.
  • seeing so many wonderful friends from seminary and church from st. louis
  • sitting by the pool with annie and getting to hang out with her!
  • spending A LOT of time with lily
  • worship services with a couple thousand other presbyterians
  • traveling with mike and julie (our pastor and his wife)
  • getting to go down the one little waterslide at the resort (thanks to annie's friend rachel for holding lily)
  • overhearing two pastors talking and one saying to the other "this is my first time to the magical kingdom" (a little bit of humor and irony)
  • and the number one highlight: on thursday morning i was scheduled to go to a ladies brunch and then to a ladies program. i met shaun outside of the assembly hall so he could hold lily while i went to the brunch. i was dressed in a nice white skirt and holding lily where she was facing outward. about 10 seconds before i was to hand her off to shaun i heard her, how shall i say it eloquently...load her pants, and then heard/felt a plop of sorts on the floor and my foot. i looked down to discover a big load of runny yellow/green poop all over the carpet and my foot. upon further inspection i looked at my nice white skirt and it too was covered in poop. so shaun quickly wiped up the floor, my shoe, and my skirt. i took lily to change her diaper and somehow she managed to only get two tiny drops on her outfit. go figure. i quickly wiped down my skirt and decided not to make the trek all the way back to our hotel room to change since the brunch was starting right then. instead i decided that the bright yellow poop streaks down my skirt complemented my handbag rather well and really pulled the entire outfit ensemble together. and the peculiar smell of baby wipes and poo gave me a rather unique odor. "loads" of fun. i'll stop.
all that to say we had a great time. and i should also add that lily was an AMAZING traveler. we have been praying for months for this trip. she is not a fan of the carseat and i was dreading an 8 hour car trip with her. well the Lord more than answered our prayers. she traveled SO well and she was so easy and pleasant the entire week, she was such a joy to have along. i just have to say praise the Lord for such a big answer to prayer. normally lily can't hardly make a 10 minute trip across town without getting worked up into a crying fit and today she traveled the ENTIRE trip without one big crying fit. God is so good and gracious to us all the time. sometime i need to write a blog post about all the prayers He has answered since lily was born.

sorry there aren't any pictures. i never brought my camera out of the suitcase. can't wait till next year and i hope to see many more friends next year at general assembly that weren't there this year. you know who you are, but it was good to see your husbands and i told them all to tell you hi, just ask them!

  3. YESSSSSS!!!!! I made it into the top 8 and my name made it TWICE! (Thanks to Rachel) :)

Hanging out with you and Lily was definitely in my top 5 highlights! SO glad to see you!

Do we really have to wait a whole year to go do something like that again!? I was so spoiled!!! (Although we had it really good with staying off-site and eating at all diff. restaurants!)
Anyway....am I the only one who "witnessed" the white poop skirt?! It was quite a funny story! But I'm glad you were late, because otherwise I would never have found you in that sea of women and would have had to sit by myself (Like I did at the talk part of it!) :)
    Love,
