sick days = no vacation

so i haven't posted on the blog in a little while. and i have no pictures this time around. many of you might have already noticed and have already stopped reading at this point and are just wondering why there are no pictures of wonderful, sweet little eva. well, sick kids just aren't that photogenic!

it all started last wednesday when eva woke up many times the night before, which is unusual for her. the next morning she was very fussy. then she barfed on me. i now know an alternative way to make cottage cheese from whole milk. anyway, she was very clingy all day and just wanted to be held and rocked. we took this as a sign that she was definitely sick seeing as how she NEVER snuggles! that same evening she got a fever of 103 and i attempted to give her motrin and she barfed on me again. no cottage cheese this time!

all of this had us concerned because the three of us were supposed to go out of town the next day on a 2 night mini vacation to a little resort that has an indoor waterpark near lake of the ozarks. (just a sidenote: i have been DYING to go to an indoor/outdoor/whatever WATERPARK!) the night before we left she slept better and even seemed better the next morning. we were hopeful for our trip. i even called the doctor's office and the "helpful" woman who answered the phone said that eva should be fine since her fever has gone away. so off we go, we arrive at our destination and check in. eva is crabby and obviously not over her ailment. so we decided to bring our dinner back to our room and put eva to bed so we can enjoy some quiet time. we put eva in the pack-n-play and she stands up and fusses and cries the entire time. usually she will sleep anywhere, but apparently not when she is sick and we are in sight. so we tried to get out of sight and sit in front of the bathroom door on the floor with just the bathroom light on. just the place you want to eat your dinner in a hotel room! it didn't work. so while i enjoyed the giant jaccuzi tub by myself, shaun held and rocked eva. she finally fell asleep and we finally got to relax by sitting on the bed watching the tv at a nearly non-existent volume level. we finally go to sleep and 10 minutes later eva is crying. to cut this part of the story short, i believe we saw all hours on the clock throughout the night as we took turns holding her, putting her in bed with us, sleeping on the floor with her, laying on the couch with her. it was awful. the next morning she still didn't feel well. we thought we would just play it by ear for the day and see what time we would go to the waterpark. well, all day eva was feverish and cranky. and then the ice storm started to hit. so with a sick baby and an ice storm we decided we should go home a day early. no waterpark. i did get to see the front doors of the waterpark. so what was supposed to be a 2 1/2 hour trip home turned into a 5 hour trip home through an icestorm and with a whiney, sick baby.

so after we got home we took eva to the doctor the next morning only to find out she had an ear infection in each ear. poor baby. i felt so bad for taking her out of town. shaun and i were actually happy that it was an ear infection causing all of her sleplessness and not her tooth that is coming in.

eva is feeling much better today and is sleeping like her old self again. maybe next month we will try for the waterpark again, but we'll see.

Danielle, my precious first born, you would make a wonderful Erma Bombeck, you might consider writing a book.

Poor baby Eva, she needs to be with her Mi-Mi or Nanny who would not have taken her to a water slide but to the Dr. instead. Do you agree Nanny?

You guys really are great parents! It will be a fun time
    next trip!

Think of all the fun trips you had growing up! I probably should stop there.

    love, Mom

Oh I agree with Mi-M baby Eva should have been with one of us!

Oh I was feeling for you yet laughing at the same time (not becasue Eva was ill). I was getting such a vivid image as you tell the story!

Glad Eva is better and hopefully you will get to go to the water park and have some fun soon.

    Love you guys

    Nanny
